Antioxidant Activity and Antibacterial Activity of Walidda
Walidda antidysenterica is an endemic plant to Sri Lanka with many recoded traditional uses but yet to be investigated scientifically in detail. We investigated the antioxidant and antibacterial properties of the methanol extracts of Walidda antidysenterica leaves, seeds, trunk, bark and root.

The results revealed that both extracts had significant antioxidant and free radical-scavenging activity. Both extracts had antibacterial activity against S. aureus, S. epidermidis, and B. cereus. The antioxidant and antimicrobial activities could be attributed to high flavonoid and phenolic contents identified using GC/MS and LC/MS.

Antibacterial and antioxidant activities of 8 aromatic plants from the Balkan Peninsula were studied. • Minimal inhibitory concentration of metanoic extracts ranged from 6.3 to 100 mg mL-1.. Minimal bactericidal concentration of metanoic extracts ranged from 12.5 to 100 mg mL-1.. Polyphenol content in methanol extracts correlated with their antioxidant properties.

Methanol extract of root possessed antioxidant activity near the range of vitamin E and thus could be a potential rich source of natural antioxidant. In case of antimicrobial screening, crude extracts of root, flower, leaf and stem showed notable antibacterial activity against tested microorganisms.
Send InquiryAntioxidant and antibacterial activity of silver
Phytocompounds of plants provide antioxidant property and the plants which have antibacterial activity provide additional antioxidant and antibacterial property to the nanoparticles . From ancient times, silver has been used as an anti-microbial agent and silver-based compounds are much cheaper than gold based [2] .

The antioxidant activity of the extracts was measured by determining the hydrogen donating or radical scavenging ability, using the stable radical, DPPH as reported previously . An aliquot (120 μL) of 0.25 mM DPPH solution in methanol and 30 μL of each extract at increasing concentrations (31.3, 62.5, 125, 250, 500, and 1000 μg/mL) were mixed vigorously together and left at room temperature in the dark.
